Sophois Sokhom is Managing Director at Accelerate Retirement, one of the country’s leading retirement plan consulting firms. Sophois’ primary focus is on developing retirement plans and preparing individuals for retirement, but more importantly her role is to care for Accelerate Retirement’s clients, assuring they receive all the expertise and support they need to work toward their goals. Sophois is also responsible for developing new relationships with businesses and individuals who are often referred to the firm by current clients.

Sophois is proof that the American Dream is possible if you have the intelligence, drive and passion to pursue it. Born in Cambodia just before the war, she arrived as a refugee in 1982 and has been a high achiever ever since. She brings that same passion to Accelerate’s goal of improving the financial outlook of their clients. In addition to working with individual clients, Sophois dedicates her time to caring for companies’ corporate retirement plans and the employees invested in them.

Sophois joins Accelerate Retirement with experience in risk management, insurance, annuities and financial planning, all stemming from her diverse background at companies such as Retirement Benefits Group, Merrill Lynch, Coopers & Lybrand and Andersen Consulting. She holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Retirement Plan Specialist (CRPS) and Chartered Retirement Plan Counselor (CRPC) certifications.

Interests

Sophois is an active member of the Long Beach Cambodian community and informally mentors Cambodian-American girls who are the first in their families to attend college. Sophois’ father was an Olympic cyclist and she enjoys riding her racing bike along California’s beaches, with her family trying to keep up.

Education

• Sophois earned her Bachelor’s in Economics at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Carleton is consistently ranked as one of the top five liberal arts colleges in the country.
• She then attended the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, where she earned her MBA with a focus in Finance.
